We have been repairing appliances for over 30 years and have owned our own business for the same. Our office staff is top notched and is supervised by My Wife Ann who is also very experienced in the Major Home Appliance Service and Part Sales Business I have a 5 year old Kenmore Refrigerator with Top mounted Freezer and ice maker (In freezer not door). Over the past 2 weeks, I've noticed a half cup of water in the refrigerator shelving and it appears to be coming from the air diffuser. I disconnected the water to the ice maker and left the door closed for a couple of days and I still have some water accumulating in the refrigerator shelving every 2-3 days.
The fan motor runs fine and everything is cold in both the refrigerator and freezer portion. The Kenmore manual claims condensation can be a problem if the controls aren't adjusted properly and if the door is opened frequently. I have both controls (ref. , Freezer) set at the factory recommended settings. I never changed them from when I bought it. Any suggestions as to where the water is comming from and what to do to stop it? Thanks. Regards, ColinA common problem Colin.....

  4. you will have to remove the rear panel and the floor of the freezer section and then using a hair dryer, remove all the ice underneath the rear evaporator coils and the floor of the freezer.

Take your time dismantling as the ice has frozen some of the components and you do not want to break any of the controlling air flow styrofoam. Once you have removed all the ice, you will see a hole going from the evaporator pan under the evaporator coils through the freezer into the refrigerator and out the rear wall to the compressor area. Sometime they hide this drain tube within the walls and you have to use air or a heavy piece of wire. We actually use a speedometer cable which is rigid in it's form to push through the tube. Once unblocked, pour hot water down the hole to remove any scum that has built up over the years. Once done, your unit will drain as normal.

Have a Antique appliance? New Appliance

  1. Have a Antique appliance? New Appliance? Any Appliance? Feel free to post your old or new pictures or links of those appliances.
  2. Miss all those Retro colors: Avocado, Harvest Wheat, Harvest Gold, Coffee? I am looking for any suggestions for how to stop/prevent a early 1950's top freezer Kelvinator from building up condensation on the outside of the freezer door.

This seems to originate from the very lower left hand corner of the freezer door near the handle. It doesn't appear to be a leaky gasket issue.
Could this be an issue with the handle/latch? The actual handle does seem a bit loose. If you feel that you have benefited from this site, and would like to show your appreciation, you can throw a buck or two in the Appliance Blog Tip Jar - Thankyou!.

A cover for a freezing counter includes

A cover for a freezing counter includes two reciprocably pivotable oblong profile elements, and a heat emitting element and a drain along one of the profile elements. plural cover parts that are each connected to a different one of said covers, each of said cover parts being pivotally connected side-by-side to said counter elongate part along the pivoting axis; a drain arranged in said counter elongate part outside the pivoting axis to receive water from said plural covers when said plural covers are open; and 3. The top of said claim 1, wherein each of said cover parts comprises a spring adjacent the pivoting axis that selectively holds the respective one of said plural covers open and closed. plural cover parts that are each connected to a different one of said covers, each of said cover parts being pivotally connected side-by-side to said counter elongate part along the pivoting axis; a drain arranged in said counter elongate part outside the pivoting axis to receive water from said plural covers when said plural covers are open, wherein said counter elongate part and each of said cover parts comprise opposing flaps that join when the respective one of said plural covers is closed to define a channel that is enclosed and extends longitudinally in said counter elongate part, said flaps not joining when the respective one of said plural covers is open so that said channel has an open longitudinal slot. plural cover parts that are each connected to a different one of said covers, each of said cover parts being pivotally connected side-by-side to said counter elongate part along the pivoting axis; said counter elongate part and each of said cover parts comprising opposing flaps that join when the respective one of said plural covers is closed to define a channel that is enclosed and extends longitudinally in said counter elongate part, said flaps not joining when the respective one of said plural covers is open so that said channel has an open longitudinal slot, said heating element being in said channel.8. The top of claim 7, wherein each of said cover parts comprises a spring adjacent the pivoting axis that selectively holds the respective one of said plural covers open and closed. The present invention relates to a device in a freezing counter comprising at least one cover to cover the whole opening of the freezing counter or parts of it, the cover being linkedly arranged between an open and a closed position. Open freezing counters have been in use since a long time e.g.

in daily shops. The reason for this is that the goods to be sold should be well exposed and easily accessible to the consumer. The increasing prices for energy and the increasing environmental consciousness, have, however, discovered the large waste of energy in this type of open counters. For reducing the energy consumption attempts have been made with different kinds of covers arranged over the large openings of the counters, usually sliding or folding covers. To maintain the exposition of products these covers are made of a transparent material, usually plastics. As is well known temperature differences inside and outside of the counter create an ice formation around the covers. The ice formation is especially a problem with folding covers. The water condensed on the upfolded cover has a tendency to leak downwards along the cover and freeze around the counter's flexible socket. The coldness of the counter and the repeated openings of the cover allow water to accumulate as ice impairing and in the worst case preventing any opening of the cover.
  1. This becomes especially difficult, if the covers flexible socket is elongated and tight, the surrounding air thus not being able to flow around the socket to prevent any freezing.
  2. In known counters with foldable covers this problem has been solved by arranging the links and the covers pivoting axis at the side of the freezing counter, e.g.

at the outside of the counter. By this arrangement the link will not be exposed to the low temperature in the freezing counter and thus there is no risk of freezing. To solve the problem of icing in such a way is not acceptable. The shop area must be used in the most efficient way, the floor area being either free for customers or used for exposing goods. Therefore, the freezing counters are designed with the freezing aggregates placed under the actual goods exposing space, the customers thus having access to the frozen goods from all sides. This implies that the covers in use must have their links in the freezing counter opening and preferably along the middle of the freezing counter opening thus giving the customers access to the frozen goods from all sides. Thus, the link itself is exposed to the freezing temperature and icing problems will occur. The invention relates to a device for freezing counters comprising at least one cover to cover the whole opening of the freezing counter or parts of it, the cover being correctedly arranged between an open and.

Revamp The Bathroom Overnight By Fitting Modern Cabinetwork

Explains how to defrost a nonfrost free

Explains how to defrost a nonfrost free refrigerator or freezer. Includes how to prepare the refrigerator for defrosting, the defrosting process itself, and how to clean-up properly afterwards. Although many modern refrigerators are frostfree, there still are many refrigerator models, new and old, that require defrosting. For these models, it is important to know the proper procedure to follow in order to defrost the refrigerator. It is also important to understand why you need to defrost it. Many non-frostfree refrigerators accumulate heavy ice deposits in their freezer compartments. These deposits can spillover into the refrigerator area causing ice to accumulate there. By defrosting a refrigerator, you eliminate the possibility of damage being caused to the appliance due to ice build-ups that can crack the plastic or other parts within the refrigerator. Additionally, it is important to periodically defrost a non-frostfree refrigerator because ice deposits can accumulate in the freezer causing the door to close improperly. A damaged freezer door can cause the refrigerator to lose its ability to cool freezer items as well as cause energy to be wasted. You should defrost a non-frostfree refrigerator at least once a year. However, if you notice much ice build-up in your freezer, you may need to defrost more often. You will know when to perform the defrosting process when ice accumulates in your freezer and you cannot add items to its space or, when the refrigerator's functionality seems impaired.
  1. When preparing your refrigerator for defrosting, select a few days in advance before beginning the actual process.
  2. This will allow you to consume all of the perishable foods in your refrigerator such as frozen foods, meat, dairy products, etc.
  3. Additionally, because the defrosting process can take anywhere from 5-8 hours to occur, make sure that you start early on the day that you plan to defrost your refrigerator and that you plan to dedicate some time to the project.
  4. To begin the defrosting process, remove all non-perishable foods from the refrigerator.

  1. These items should be moved to a cooler that contains some ice in it to keep the items from getting warm.
  2. Next, turn the refrigerator's temperature down to 0 or Off depending on the model.

If possible, remove any shelving from the refrigerator, clean it, and set it aside. Note that it is not necessary to unplug the refrigerator. Unplugging the refrigerator will turn-off any lights inside and it is advantageous to have lighting on when performing the defrosting process. Depending on the model that you own, either open one or two refrigerator doors and leave them open. This allows the flow of warm air to enter into the appliance and helps the defrosting process. While the doors are open, take some old cloth or paper towels and set them aside. Now you will need to wait approximately 1-2 hours for the ice to melt inside the refrigerator. As the ice melts, use the towels to absorb the melting water. You will notice that larger ice chunks will separate from the appliance. Remove these by hand as they separate. Because this melting process takes a long time, you can also use an instrument to pry the ice away from the appliance as it melts. However, use only a metal spoon or butter knife to pry the ice away and do so only after the ice has begun its own separation. Using a sharper instrument, such as a steak knife, large knife, or scissors, etc.
, can cause severe damage to the appliance including puncturing the cooling surfaces, which will cause coolant to escape from the system. Your best bet is to wait for the ice to melt on its own. Although the process is timely, you will be ensured that physical damage has not been caused to your refrigerator's interior. Once all the ice has been removed from the refrigerator, the cleaning process begins. To clean the inside of your refrigerator, do not use any harsh abrasive cleaners or ammonia-based products. Instead, make a mixture of cold water and mild soap in a bucket. Take a sponge, drop it into the mixture, and wipe down the inside of the appliance. When the appliance has been washed inside, take another sponge, drop it into non-soapy cold water and re-clean the areas that you just washed in order to remove any excess soap that remains. Next, dry the appliance with clean, cloth or paper towels and let it remain open for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Continuing to dry the refrigerator in this way ensures that all water is removed and that excessive condensation will not occur once the refrigerator is re-started. After an hour has passed, place any shelves that were removed, back into the appliance. Next, return your food items to the refrigerator, re-set the temperature to its previous setting, and close the doors. Your refrigerator is now defrosted and properly cleaned..

Corporate Transfers - 8 Steps To Help You Survive

Corporate Transfers - 8 Steps To Help You Survive

Warning! To avoid personal injury or

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance. First, check to see if the light comes on or if there is any fan, motor, or other sound coming from the appliance? If so, the refrigerator isn't really completely stopped--go to the specific problem you are having. If not, try adjusting the thermostat to a colder setting. If that doesn't work, read on. Second, check to see if there is power getting to the refrigerator. To do that, plug a lamp or other device into the same outlet the refrigerator is plugged into.
If there's no power, check the fuses or circuit breakers. If the fuses or breakers aren't the problem, contact a qualified electrician to restore power to the outlet. Unfortunately, we can't describe all of the possible problems and repair solutions here. If you are unable to troubleshoot the problem from here, you may need to contact a qualified appliance repair technician. The compressor is a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts. It's on the outside of the refrigerator at the back near the bottom. If it is humming or making a continuous noise and your refrigerator is still not cooling, there may be a more serious problem with one or more of several different components, we recommend contacting a qualified appliance repair technician for further help.
For an overall understanding of how refrigerators should work, read about refrigerators in the How Things Work section of our website. A refrigerator or freezer that is cooling, but cooling poorly, may have a problem in one of several areas: Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer. Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets. The refrigerator is supposed to self-defrost approximately four times in every 24 hour period. If one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails, the refrigerator continues to try to cool. Eventually, though, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There may still be a small amount of cooling because the coils are icy, but with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited.
Here's an inexpensive, though inconvenient, way to determine if the problem is with the self-defrosting system. Remove all of the perishable food from the refrigerator and freezer, turn the thermostat in the refrigerator to Off, and leave the doors open for 24 to 48 hours. (Be sure to have several towels ready in case the melting frost and ice causes the drip pan to overflow). This allows the refrigerator to defrost manually. When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the refrigerator then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of three components in the self-defrosting system:If it still does not cool properly, there may be a problem with the refrigerant level or the compressor. You may need to consult with a qualified appliance repair technician to further diagnose the problem Self-defrosting refrigerators all have a set of coils and a cooling fan, usually under the refrigerator, that need to be cleaned regularly. If these coils get coated with dust, dirt or lint, the refrigerator may not cool properly.
  1. The coils may appear to be a thin, black, wide radiator-like device behind the lower kick-panel.
  2. To clean them, disconnect the refrigerator from the power source, use a refrigerator condenser brush (see the Appliance Accessories section) and your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils of any lint, pet hair, etc.
  3. You may not be able to get to all of the condenser from the front, it may be necessary to clean the remainder of the condenser from the rear of the refrigerator.
  4. Self-defrosting refrigerators use a circulating fan to move the air through the freezer and refrigerator compartments.

This fan runs whenever the unit is cooling. The fan is located in the freezer, as follows: To find out if the fan is causing the noise, just open the freezer door and push in any fan/light switches. If the noise is louder when the door is open, the evaporator fan motor is the cause. You can't lubricate or repair this motor. You must replace it. There are three components on the outside back of the refrigerator that may become noisy: the compressor, the condenser fan motor (if self-defrosting), or the defrost timer (if self-defrosting). The compressor is a football-sized case wi.
